Pick 27. Pick Analysis. Round 1. Grant Delpit. S. player. 817. Scouting Report

Trade Alert: The Dallas Cowboys trade with the Seattle Seahawks here, giving up the No. 17 pick for the 27th as well as the 101st overall in Round 3

Thanks to the Cowboys filling out their roster in free agency, they don’t have to reach for any player. Because of that, they can drop down in the first round, which is what they do here. In the process, they land a third-round pick from the Seattle Seahawks.

Ideally, they would like more value but this was the best trade that could be approved and Dallas could land a potential starter at No. 101.

As for their first pick in this mock, the Cowboys find a playmaker in Grant Delpit, the safety from LSU. While they did add Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in free agency, he was only given a one-year deal. They also have Xavier Woods on the final year of his contract and with him and Clinton-Dix both better at free safety than strong safety, Dallas could decide on keeping just one of them next year.

Whatever their plan, their current safety corp isn’t enough to skip on someone such as Delpit, who is a great value here ‚— and would have still been a good pick at 17.

The fact that the talented safety is a possibility where they were originally picking makes this move even better for Dallas. And it could finally clean up their secondary, which has been in dire need of playmakers at safety for years.
