Pick Analysis. Wide Receiver. player. 851. Scouting Report. Texas. Devin Duvernay. 5

Devin Duvernay is a confusing case. He has great speed, running a 4.39-second 40-yard dash, but he isn’t quick off the snap. Additionally, he has outstanding hands and power for a slot receiver but he is tight-hipped and needs improvement running his routes.

If a team picks him up and integrates a good plan for him, Duvernay could have a good career. He has the tools to succeed but still needs to fit them all together.

Duvernay could help the offense on a number of fronts. With his speed, he could extend the defense. He could also help by being a possession receiver. Throw him the ball on a screen or on an intermediate route and he’s tough enough to get you the first down.

Speaking of toughness, Duvernay seems to love contact. He doesn’t wait for the defender to make the hit. Instead, he lowers the boom himself. He uses that toughness to knock over the defender and turn a small gain into a big one. Also, he uses that toughness to fight for the ball and win battles for the ball against defenders.

Duvernay has soft hands and does a good job of making the catch away from his body. He plucks the ball from the air and then protects it very quickly.

Duvernay had an amazing 106 catches in 2019, ranking third in the nation. He had 1,386 receiving yards, ranking fifth in the nation. He’d be a good fit in Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy’s system.
