The Atlanta Falcons released their new uniforms on Wednesday for the 2020 NFL season, and they are gathering a lot of feedback as being a downgrade.

A week before they originally planned to release their new uniforms, the Atlanta Falcons gave fans a glimpse at a fresh look they will sport for the 2020 NFL season. On Wednesday, the Falcons released a video of four variations of their jerseys they will introduce on the field this year. Atlanta pushed up the release of the new look by about a week due to a few leaks on social media.

This season, Atlanta will have four different jerseys, deviating from more of the tradition Falcons look they have dawned in year’s prior.

"“The Falcons have a proud tradition of bringing people and communities together from all walks of life with a shared passion for winning football and the intense desire to see a championship caliber team both on and off the field,” Atlanta owner Arthur M. Blank said in a statement to Falcons fans. “Football will be back and when it is, I can promise our Falcons will be stronger than ever, for you, our loyal fans and fo our city.”"

The two primary jerseys consist of an all-white uniform for the road and an all-black set for home game. Both uniforms are able to be paired with red, white and black pants.

Those two primary jerseys aren’t too different from what Atlanta has worn in the past, but the other two jerseys included in the full collection put an interesting twist to the Falcon’s new look.

The alternate uniform Atlanta introduced is a red gradient jersey that fades into black, along with black pants. The final uniform is a throwback jersey, replicating the Falcons’ black tops with white pants from 1966.

There has been an endless amount of feedback that has appeared among a sports-hungry fan base since Atlanta released the uniforms, and much of it has been negative.

It’s hard to disagree with the mostly negative reaction to the new kits, with many thinking these uniforms are a downgrade to what the Falcons have worn in the past. There’s no question that Atlanta deviated from what other teams have done when it comes to changing up their look and jerseys, especially when it comes to the gradient red and black alternate uniform.

Along with the colors of the jerseys, the bold “ATL” on the front of the tops kind of stand out in a not-so-great way. Also, the chrome facemasks haven’t worked out well for many teams historically. There is a chance that the uniforms will eventually grow on us all, but sometimes simpler jerseys are better for most teams.

The nice thing about these new uniforms are that the sets appear to be interchangeable and could allow the Falcons the opportunity to change their look whenever they would like throughout the season, mainly when it comes to the color of their pants.

Another nice aspect of the group of uniforms is that the throwback jerseys mirroring what Atlanta wore in 1966 are clean and look nice. Throwbacks have always been a nice option for organizations to have within their arsenals.

Overall, the Falcons went out on a limb and deviated from what others have done when it comes to introducing new uniforms that will make their first appearances during the 2020 campaign. But unfortunately for Atlanta, this new look is a downgrade from what it once had.
