5. Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB, LSU

Many mock drafts have the Miami Dolphins taking a running back at the No. 26 or No. 39 pick. But they don’t have to. The class is deep enough to warrant patience, waiting until Day 3 for someone like Anthony McFarland Jr.

However, the Dolphins could and should take Clyde Edwards-Helaire at No. 56. On film, Edwards-Helaire isn’t that far removed from any of the top players in the 2020 NFL Draft. The only thing keeping out of the RB1 conversation is his size at 5-7, 207 pounds.

The former LSU Tiger has elite qualities that you want in a feature back. His contact balance is second to none in the 2020 draft; he falls forward and runs with power. Moreover, he presses the line and has one-cut ability, a quality to you want in a zone scheme. He shows the ability to set up defenders by using his blockers. Ball security isn’t an and delvers a good pop when finishing.

Edwards-Helaire is the best route runner in the class, making him an ideal back on third downs. He’s an every-down back who could dominate touches early on. As a rookie, he’ll bring added value in the return game and could see massive total yardage production.

The combination of Howard and Edwards-Helaire will give the Dolphins the dynamic tandem they’ve been looking for.
