Dallas Cowboys: Grading every pick in 2020 NFL Draft
By Randy Gurzi
With the 17th overall selection, it felt all but guaranteed that the Cowboys were going to land a defensive starter and one of their biggest targets was on the board in K’Lavon Chaisson. That in itself seemed like a pipedream as Chaisson’s talent suggested he should go much earlier than that.

However, the Cowboys decided not to take the edge rusher but this time, it wasn’t the same as in the past when they skipped on T.J. Watt for Taco Charlton. Instead this time, they took the No. 6 player on their board, Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
Coming into the draft, there was literally no scenario where Lamb was going to Dallas, but that was because no one expected him to be on the clock at No. 17.
Once it worked out to where he was, the Cowboys wisely pulled the trigger — something they might not have done in recent drafts as former head coach Jason Garrett was often a victim of pushing need and scheme fit in the draft.
The one knock anyone has is that there aren’t enough passes to go around, but that’s incorrect. Dallas had 63 receptions and 529 yards out of Jason Witten and 55 receptions for 828 yards from Randall Cobb last season and each left in free agency. So while this isn’t a major need, there’s room for Lamb and this offense just got insanely better.
Dallas is in a new era with head coach Mike McCarthy and the first pick with him in charge announced that in a huge way.
