AFC West: Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos did a lot this offseason to improve their team. They were active in free agency, as well as trades, then hit some home runs in the 2020 NFL Draft. As far as free agency was concerned, they added Melvin Gordon who left the Los Angeles Chargers after they refused to give him a contract he liked.

The move was interesting considering they already have Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman but it’s hard to argue that Gordon isn’t an improvement. Then in trades, they brought in cornerback A.J. Bouye and defensive tackle Jurrell Casey. As impressive as those moves were, Denver really did their best work in the draft.

Some of their success came simply from luck with good players being available when they were on the clock, but they were also smart enough to pull the trigger when an opportunity presented itself. At pick 15, they landed Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy and then they doubled up on receivers by taking the speedy K.J. Hamler at No. 46.

Putting those two on the same field as Courtland Sutton and Noah Fant looks deadly on paper. So too does the addition of Albert Okwuegbunam, who was impressive in the Scouting Combine, especially when it came to running the 40-yard dash.

Denver was trending in the right direction last season and their solid work in the offseason means they should continue to improve on the field.
