Dallas Cowboys safeties: Starters

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix

The Cowboys let Jeff Heath leave in free agency this offseason and in his place, they will be turning to Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. Last season, Clinton-Dix played with the Chicago Bears which came after splitting the prior season with Washington and Green Bay.

Originally drafted in the first round by the Packers, the former Alabama product has become quite the ballhawk. In his six seasons, he has 16 interceptions which is something the Cowboys can surely use.

Clinton-Dix serves more of a centerfield-type or role which means he should line up at free safety with Xavier Woods moving over to Heath’s vacated spot.

Xavier Woods

Entering his fourth season in the NFL, Xavier Woods is on the final year of his rookie contract. He’s already outplayed his late-round draft status but he has yet to convince the team he’s the answer either.

2020 will be big for Woods as he looks to prove he’s worthy of a big contract extension. So far in his first three seasons, he has 175 tackles and five interceptions. He’s constantly finding himself around the ball but hasn’t fully put it all together. He has the instincts, and if he can trust his eyes more he should be able to take that next step.

Clearly, this is the best starting duo at safety the Cowboys have had for a long time and there’s still room for Woods to get even better.
