3. Defense will still struggle but will bounce back a bit

One thing that was of concern for Minnesota during the Week 1 loss to the Green Bay Packers was the play on the defensive side of the ball. In the Week 2 matchup on the road, the defense will have some growing pains but will bounce back a bit with a solid performance against the Colts.

Throughout the course of the game against Green Bay, the young Minnesota defense was worked for nearly the entire game with the exception of coming up with a few key red zone stops early on in the season opener.

The reason for the step back by this defensive unit initially in the 2020 season could be the lack of experience throughout the defense and the change in personnel that took place during the offseason on the defensive depth chart. The other reason could be the lack of playing time together to get their legs underneath them with no preseason games taking place prior to the start of the season.

In Week 2, it will be incredibly important for Minnesota’s defense to improve upon what took place in Week 1, otherwise, this could be another high scoring contest against the Colts on Sunday in Indianapolis.

One thing that could feed into the prediction of the Vikings defense bouncing back a bit this weekend in the second week of the regular season lies within the Colts’ quarterback position and the passing game.

Indianapolis aired the ball out a decent amount in Week 1, throwing the ball 46 times while tallying 363 yards and one touchdown through the air. Newcomer veteran quarterback Philip Rivers, however, tends to be a turnover machine and that could present the Vikings defense with some opportunities to improve on the Week 1 performance.

Rivers turned the ball over twice via interception in the season opener and that is something that has been a common occurrence for the veteran quarterback since he entered the NFL.

Although there will still be a concern for Minnesota in trying to hold Indianapolis in check for the most part through the air, the Vikings will have high hopes of bouncing back a bit defensively in the second game of the year.
