2. David Montgomery has a breakout game with over 100 yards on the ground

The Bears have been known for their running backs and drafting David Montgomery in Round 3 a couple of years ago was a sign of commitment and hope. So far this season, he has only had 146 rushing yards total and has yet to find the end zone on the ground. That all changes this week.

Atlanta’s defense, besides Grady Jarrett, has struggled to stop the run. This season especially with Elliott in Week 2 and Chris Carson in Week 1. Why would the Bears not look to establish the run early while easing Trubisky into the game and opening up for play-action passes against an Atlanta secondary that has yet to show signs of excellence?

In addition, offensive coordinator Bill Lazor, while used to helping quarterbacks develop, knows how essential a running game as does head coach Matt Nagy. The running game was instrumental in 2018 when the Bears won the division in 2018 and the lack of a proper running game doomed them in 2019 when they finished 8-8.

Expect the Bears to come out aggressive at the line of scrimmage. When the ball is placed in the hands of an offensive line, usually they come through. This isn’t the Great Wall of Dallas, but these guys love to run the football and when they get what they want, look out.
