3. Los Angeles Rams vs. Buffalo Bills

Expectations coming into the 2020 season were that the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams were going to be quality teams. Having said that, with the leap made by quarterback Josh Allen in Buffalo and with Sean McVay and Jared Goff reinvigorating the Rams offense, these two teams have exceeded those expectations through the first two games of the year with 2-0 starts.

The big thing for the Bills has been the rise of Allen. Buffalo’s defense was expected to be quality and it has been. But the third-year quarterback has started to capitalize on his raw tools and potential with the arrival of Stefon Diggs. Now, according to Football Outsiders, the Bills and Josh Allen rank seventh in DVOA.

Last season, after dominating the NFL for a couple of years, the Rams finally fell back down to earth. One of the calling cards for the Rams when they dominated the NFL was their running ability but that collapsed in 2019 with the offensive line struggling.

Not only did the Rams offensive line affect their running game but it also affected their passing game. Goff was under pressure 122 times and was blitzed 219 times as his offensive line seemingly crumbled around him. Now this season, for whatever reason, the Rams offensive line has improved, putting Goff under less pressure and allowing the offense to work.

The winner of this game will get a nice cushion in the early playoff race but we’ll also begin to find out more about these two potential postseason contenders. They have been exciting thus far, so then it should be exciting then to see them meet in Week 3.
