3. Patriots will force Jets to throw the ball

The first thing that will take place in the game for New England on the national stage against a struggling New York squad is that the Patriots defense will force the Jets offense to try and throw the ball in the game.

More from NFL Spin Zone

So far this season, New England’s defense has kept the team in games as we oftentimes saw during the 2019 campaign, holding opposing offenses in check for the most part.

Specifically through the air, the Patriots have given up just 1,518 yards via the pass, which ranks fourth-best in the NFL. They have also allowed opposing offenses just nine touchdowns via the passing game, which is tied for the second-least.

On the other side of the field, the Jets have been just about as bad as New England in the passing game at the midway point in the season. New York has thrown for 1,442 yards (third-least in the NFL) while only throwing for four touchdowns, the second-worst mark in the league behind only the Patriots with three.

One of the weaknesses on the Jets offensive unit that has looked awful this year is that they can’t throw the ball that effectively, which is something the Patriots defense will try and force them to do during the game in Week 9.
