Jacksonville was without an injured Gardner Minshew and that meant they were starting sixth-round pick Jake Luton. With him under center, no one knew what to expect and it wasn’t long before Luton showed that he has the arm to get it done at the NFL level. On just his second pass attempt of the game, Luton hit D.J. Chark for a 73-yard touchdown pass.
As exciting as that was, it wasn’t long until the Jags reminded us why they are the No. 31 team in these NFL Power Rankings. The defense promptly surrendered a 57-yard touchdown pass to Brandin Cooks on the Texans’ second play of the game. From there, they ended up spending much of the day trying to catch back up.
In the fourth quarter, they nearly did just that as Luton ran in a score from 13-yards out to make it 27-25. However, his two-point conversion pass hit the turf and the Texans moved to 2-6 on the season and the Jaguars fell to 1-7.
