. AFC South. Jacksonville Jaguars. Jacksonville Jaguars. 4. player. 52

File this under the unlikely category, but the Jacksonville Jaguars could certainly use a player like Matthew Stafford. The reason this probably isn’t happening is that the Jaguars are more than likely finishing the season with at least the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft where they’ll probably take Justin Fields of Ohio State.

My logic here is that even first-round quarterbacks need a mentor, right? Look at what the Chiefs did in 2017 with Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes. That worked out pretty well, didn’t it? I’m not saying the Jaguars would win a Super Bowl less than three years later, but they could be competitive at least.

Jacksonville likely doesn’t throw their hat into the Stafford sweepstakes because they have Gardner Minshew on the roster still and he could be a decent mentor for Fields. Also, the Jaguars might still be scarred from the Nick Foles signing just a year ago and while Stafford is far and away more talented than Foles, this is a move that could remind them of that mistake.

Stafford would have weapons in Jacksonville, but the organization is a mess right now and he’d essentially be going from one dumpster fire of a team to another. For Stafford’s sake, I hope this move doesn’t happen, but he’d be a wonderful mentor for Fields.
