New York Jets 2021 free agent target No. 2: Joe Thuney, OG

New York’s offensive line has had a superb upgrade from where they were in the 2019 season. First-rounder Mekhi Becton has helped solidify and strengthen the line as he looks set to go to the Pro Bowl this year and, hopefully, for many years to come.

George Fant has shown moments of promise and Connor McGovern has been a consistent center which Gang Green has been lacking for a serious while now.

But while this group has been upgraded, the O-line still has work to be done. And with the possibility of a new quarterback arriving in the Big Apple, Joe Thuney would turn this offensive line into an extremely strong one and would allow the Jets to focus on other position groups in the draft.

In 2019, Joe Thuney had a Pass Block Win Rate of 97 percent, second in the league among guards. This led to New England slapping him with the franchise tag worth over $14 million this year. Signing Thuney will be a lot of money for the Jets to pay, which is where their cap space comes into play.

If the Jets sign Thuney he will complete an overhaul of the offensive line and his signing might be even more important with Alex Lewis’s future in New York in doubt. Thuney is versatile positionally and has just one sack conceded in almost 700 snaps. His presence would be tremendous for the Jets.
