New York Jets head coach candidate No. 4: Brian Daboll

Current Role: Bills Offensive Coordinator

For the past few years prior to the 2020 season, the Buffalo Bills were known for the defense under the watch of head coach Sean McDermott. But at the same time, there were clear steps forward being taken on offense as young quarterback Josh Allen developed. Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll was putting his guys in the best position to succeed and adding more to their plate as they went along. And that’s all come to beautiful fruition in the 2020-21 season.

Someone who has shown the ability to construct, develop and bring along a group of young players and an offense is exactly what the Jets should be looking for. They will likely have a rookie quarterback in the 2021 season and have a litany of young skill position players. What’s next is the right person to guide them and Daboll has proven his merit in doing that exact job.

New York Jets head coach candidate No. 3: Arthur Smith

Current Role: Titans Offensive Coordinator

It feels as if current Tennessee offensive coordinator Arthur Smith gets overlooked far too often for the job that he’s done in Nashville, especially when we start to talk about head coaching vacancies. Smith took a middling group in Tennessee and, with the addition of Ryan Tannehill and A.J. Brown, has turned the offense into one of the best units in the league over the last 1.5 seasons.

There’s no question that Smith is less seasoned than most of the other candidates that the New York Jets could be looking at during this search. At the same time, experience does not always equal quality, as the team learned the hard way with the Gase hire. You need to look at the body of work and what Smith has put together in that department is a head-turner.
