4. Secondary weapons stepping up in big moments

Between Rodgers, Aaron Jones and Davante Adams, no one is questioning who the lead players in this Packers offense are. But one of the offseason concerns was that the secondary weapons were lacking, which is why there was such an outrage when Green Bay selected Jordan Love in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Down the stretch and in the one playoff game to this point, however, we’ve started to see the secondary weapons in the offense rise to the occasion. We already discussed Williams coming into the game to spell Jones and ice the game against the Rams and doing well in that capacity but it goes well beyond him.

In that win over the Rams, Allen Lazard led the team in receiving thanks, in large part, to a 58-yard touchdown reception — and he could’ve had another had he not dropped it. Meanwhile, tight end Robert Tonyan continued to be a quiet force with four grabs for 60 yards. We’ve also seen Marquez Valdes-Scantling pop up, most recently in Week 17 when his 72-yard touchdown set the tone for that game that clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

Star players are always critical when the lights are brightest, which is why they have their notoriety — that’s what’s expected of them. But what separates good teams from great teams is when the other options are entering the spotlight and not shying away from it. That’s what we’re currently seeing from the Packers.
