FanDuel Conference Championship picks: Running Back

The running back position this week is the polar opposite of the quarterback position. With four of the best quarterbacks in the game available, the selection of running backs this week is quite underwhelming.

More from NFL Spin Zone

Aaron Jones ($8,000) is the clear top option and most likely under-priced relative to the rest of the backs, though it is hard to justify spending up when he is clearly in a timeshare and loses goal line looks weekly to Aaron Rodgers. While I would much rather save up for the wide receiver position, it gets hard to find ways to fill your running back slots up without Aaron Jones.

Leonard Fournette ($7,200) and Ronald Jones II ($5,600) are the two backs on the other side of the ball and could be the difference-maker in most tournaments. Though Fournette’s usage has been trending up in recent weeks, Jones is actually my much-preferred play. Even though Fournette receives a bulk of the passing work, I think Jones is the much more talented running back and is the much better value in a week where you do not want to spend up at running back.

The running back situation gets even more complicated in the late game. If Clyde Edwards-Helaire is active ($6,200), I am very willing to play him with the current state of running backs. If he is inactive again, I would also be very happy to play Darell Williams ($6,000), who clearly took over the lead role in the Divisional Round game against the Browns and completely overtook Le’Veon Bell ($5,100) on the depth chart.

On paper, Devin Singletary should be a smash start as the only option at running back on a high powered offense against a weak Chiefs rush defense, at $5,800 no less. However, in his first game with Zach Moss on IR, he only saw 10 opportunities which he turned into 37 total yards. With all that being said, I still view Singletary as strong play this week and I think there is a very high chance he ends up in the optimal lineup due to his low salary.
