2022 NFL Mock Draft: Picks 7-8

7. New York Giants: Derek Stingley Jr., CB, LSU

Where will the New York Giants go after this season? Will Dave Gettleman remain in his GM chair? Will Daniel Jones remain the quarterback?

Is Joe Judge still going to be the head coach of this team?

Needless to say, huge improvements are needed over the course of the 2021 season for people in New York to be keeping their jobs. Defensively, this unit has performed pretty well under Patrick Graham but they might need a bit of a youth movement at the cornerback position.

Derek Stingley Jr. is going to miss the rest of the 2021 season with an injury, but he still could wind up being the CB1 of the 2022 NFL Draft when all is said and done. He was an absolute superstar on that 2019 Championship defense as a true freshman, and even with a bit of a step back in his 2020 film, Stingley proved early in 2021 that he is no fluke.

8. New York Jets: Andrew Booth Jr., CB, Clemson

With back-to-back selections, two of the New York (or New Jersey if that’s a big deal to you) teams go with young, stud cornerback prospects.

The Giants obviously took a bit of a calculated risk on a player like Stingley who is recovering and rehabbing right now, but the Jets get Andrew Booth Jr. who has improved his stock as much as just about any non-quarterback in this class.

This guy is aggressive, physical, and rarely does he “miss”. He’s an outstanding tackler at the position and is learning to be lockstep in coverage.

With his combination of speed and size, he will fit in nicely with Aidan Hutchinson and the Robert Saleh-led defense.
