Just about everything that could go wrong for the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9 did. They had uncharacteristic drops from both Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb. They even somehow blocked a punt that turned into a first down for the Broncos. Dak Prescott was also inaccurate for the majority of the first 45 minutes and even missed Lamb for what would have been a 60-yard touchdown on fourth down. Even with the loss, the Cowboys move up simply because some of the teams ahead of them lost.
That was just one of many failed fourth-down attempts for America’s Team who wore their throwback helmets with the red, white, and blue stripe — which will probably now be shelved given how bad they played while wearing it.
Denver, who came in with a record of 4-4, went up 30-0 on Dallas and it really could have been worse. If there was anything good about this game, it was the fact that Prescott — who might have returned too early from the calf injury if his accuracy concerns are any indication — got it together down the stretch.
He hit Malik Turner for two touchdowns to at least make it a 30-16 score, avoiding the shutout. This loss still hurt as they ended a six-game winning streak. The good news? They play Atlanta next week, a team that doesn’t have near as much talent on defense as the one they just got embarrassed by.
