Destinations for Cam Newton – Pittsburgh Steelers

For the first time in nearly 20 years, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a dire need at the quarterback position with the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger.  The Steelers managed to squeak into the playoffs in 2021 with a 9-7-1 record and got blown out by the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card round.

Dwayne Haskins and Mason Rudolph are apparently going to battle it out for the starting position in 2022, but I have a very hard time believing the Steelers aren’t going to further address the position, where they attempt to trade for a quality veteran or spend a high draft pick on a rookie.

I think the Steelers would be wise to part with Rudolph and Haskins, draft someone who needs a year, and let Cam Newton play 2022 out.

The Steelers need to rebuild their offensive line and inject some more youth along the defense, which won’t happen overnight.

One of the absolute worst things a team can do to a rookie quarterback is make them play behind a porous offensive line, and that’s exactly what the Steelers have.

While the Steelers rebuild their line in 2022, starting someone like Newton might be smart in a transition year for Pittsburgh.

Cam Newton could get his wish and be a starter again, and the Steelers could allow their theoretical rookie to sit, develop, and not get beat up behind a bad offensive line.
