NFL Offseason 2022: Middle of the Pack

The next tier of teams with cap space are those who are in the middle of the pack.  They have anywhere from $17 million-$32 million in available cap space.  Teams like the Steelers and commanders have enough money to make a splash signing but also have quarterback questions.  They have enough cap to add a veteran quarterback, though.

The Bears have about $27 million and need to put the right players around Justin Fields.  They need more pass catchers and a more talented offensive line.  If they can’t develop Fields, they’ll have failed, big time.

The Browns and Raiders are fringe playoff teams who might end up having quarterback questions.  The Browns need less, but questions surrounding Baker Mayfield are valid.

The Raiders somehow made the playoffs at 10-7 and will probably give Derek Carr a large extension.  They need some defensive help and could use another pass catcher and another player or two along their offensive line.

The Lions are in year two of a massive rebuild and are still a few years away from being relevant.  They need just about every position on their roster and don’t have a ton of cap space to work with.  Things are looking down in Detroit.

The Eagles made the playoffs in year one of the Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts marriage.  I would not be surprised if they dumped Hurts for a bigger upgrade, but they should improve in 2022 with about $20 million in available space and another year of Hurts within the system.
