AFC East pre-draft grades

4. New York Jets, B-

The biggest move the New York Jets made was re-signing Joe Flacco, who is one of the better starters in the NFL.

I’m kidding.  Their biggest move was signing former 49er Laken Tomlinson to a $40 million contract, giving the Jets a very solid offensive line for Zach Wilson.

Their other moves were decent, but not flashy.  They added two OK tight ends in Tyler Conklin and C.J. Uzomah, and added two talented players in the secondary in D.J. Reed and Jordan Whitehead.

The biggest need left for the Jets perhaps is their receiving core, which they didn’t add to in free agency outside of re-signing Braxton Berrios.  With a number of high-quality free agent wide receivers available at the beginning of the period, it’s puzzling why the Jets didn’t sign one.

This is going to be a very big year two for Zach Wilson, and he does need another receiving threat.

The other holes the Jets have are in the secondary.  New York needs another viable corner, and have two first-round picks at their disposal.

Perhaps if DK Metcalf is available for trade, they could make a move for him, but there’s been no indication of that happening.

The New York Jets are a clear fourth in the AFC East, and this free agency period gave no indication that would change in 2022.
