Dallas Cowboys TE Option No. 2: Eric Ebron

The No. 10 overall pick out of North Carolina back in 2014, Eric Ebron played four seasons with the Detroit Lions to start his career. While he never became the ‘game-changing’ player he was expected to be when he entered the league, he was still a very good receiving tight end.

In four seasons with the Lions, Ebron had 186 receptions for 2,070 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was released before his fifth season with the Lions and that led to him signing a two-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts — and he had his best season in 2018.

That year, Ebron had career highs in receptions (66), yards (50), and touchdowns (13). Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to replicate the success the following season as an ankle injury slowed him down and sent him to IR.

He had another bounce-back in 2020 when he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers. As a No. 2 tight end, Ebron had 558 yards and five touchdowns. The roller-coaster continued as injuries plagued him in 2021 and he finished with just 12 catches.

Now, he’s still looking for a new team and while it feels as though he’s been in the NFL forever, Ebron is still just 29 years of age. Dallas could try and convince him to join their roster at an affordable rate, and he could have another year where he proves he can still perform at a high level.
