Again, the Bears need to get faster, stronger, and more violent. Plus, they want to use their picks properly.

Ryan Poles has shown that he values the trenches to a fault, being a former offensive lineman himself. Also, he drafted several late-rounders in 2022, many of whom will likely play reserve roles that could move into starting positions.

At this point, he needs someone who can immediately step in and make an impact. Look no further than “The U” and offensive tackle/guard, Zion Nelson. A mean streak with the South Florida edge. It sounds like everything Poles wants.

Also, Nelson has the potential to be a prolific player in the league if coached right.

Based out of South Carolina, Nelson arrived in South Florida as a two-star recruit. Upon his arrival, he became the starting left tackle. Unfortunately, that did not work, and for a good reason, giving up many sacks.

However, he regained his starting job and has since improved from his nightmarish start. It’s not to say he cannot become a stellar offensive tackle, but projections matter.

He projects at guard mostly because while he is quick on his feet, his consistent affinity for lunging at defenders while not maintaining consistent balance is an issue. If he were to move inside to guard, such tactics could be masqueraded, especially with proper coaching.

However, if he can continue to improve at the tackle position, the Bears could be in a fortunate spot where they have versatility in their offensive line as well as production.
