4 reasons the Kansas City Chiefs will disappoint fans in 2022
Reason no. 3: Kansas City Chiefs have the worst EDGE duo in the AFC West
One of the primary reasons I can see a regression on the near horizon for the Kansas City Chiefs?
They’ve got one of the worst edge rush duos in the AFC West.
Maybe even the AFC as a whole.
Frank Clark had 48 pressures and 13.0 sacks in his final season with the Seattle Seahawks back in 2018. Since that time, he has racked up 18.5 sacks in three seasons and has not topped 30 pressures with the Chiefs.
He’s still found ways to be productive, but not like everyone expected when he came over from Seattle. Now, he’s joined by first-round pick George Karlaftis, another player whose production hasn’t quite matched up to his talent in recent years.
Karlaftis comes from Purdue and was known for his high motor off the edge, but he had just 6.5 sacks in his last 14 games for the Boilermakers.
The other pass rush duos in the AFC West:
- Chargers: Joey Bosa & Khalil Mack
- Broncos: Randy Gregory & Bradley Chubb
- Raiders: Maxx Crosby & Chandler Jones
At least on paper, there’s no question that the Chiefs’ tandem off the edge is the least desirable of the duos in the AFC West.
Looking across the rest of the AFC, there are few duos you might put behind this Chiefs duo.
