The Denver Broncos figure to be active in the coming free agency period, but there are some players they should stay away from.

Free agency can be a fun and rewarding time for many NFL teams, as they can quickly fill some much-needed holes on their roster and can spring themselves back into contention.

The downside of this is that if you spend money on the wrong players, the deal can blow up in your face big time.  The Broncos do not have a draft pick until the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, so they are surely going to dip into the free agency market.

Let’s highlight 10 nightmare targets in free agency for the Denver Broncos.

10 nightmare targets for Denver Broncos in free agency – Offense

1. Dalton Risner, LG

Dalton Risner has been a four-year starter for the Denver Broncos after being drafted in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.  He did have an encouraging rookie season, but nothing notable has come after that.

Risner is adequate as a run blocker but is constantly getting beat in pass protection.  Frankly, I don’t care what PFF thinks about Risner.  My eyes have told me that he is largely a liability on a bad Broncos’ OL.

2. Carson Wentz, QB

Carson Wentz is a free agent and I think his time as a starter in the NFL has come to an end.  So, the next logical step for Wentz would be to accept the fact that he still can play in the NFL, but that playing time will come as a backup.

Well, Denver’s backup in 2022 was Brett Rypien who is not an NFL quarterback.  The Broncos do need to upgrade this spot in 2023, but Wentz’s sandpaper-like personality and his apparently not being the best in the locker room makes him an awful target for the QB2 job in Denver.
