4 players primed to be traded during the 2023 NFL Draft
2. Derrick Henry could be traded during the 2023 NFL Draft
Tennessee is in a peculiar spot heading into 2023. It is a team that wants to be competing each and every year, but the Titans have found themselves trending downward in an up-and-coming division.
Not only did we see Trevor Lawrence take a leap in 2023, leading the Jaguars to the playoffs, but the Texans and Colts each have a pick inside the top four. Both teams will most likely select a quarterback with those picks.
Meanwhile, the Titans have Ryan Tannehill, who is declining and expensive, and Malik Willis, who showed little to nothing in his playing time in 2022. Tennessee has a potential quarterback problem, and with the 11th pick, the Titans would have to trade up to grab a quarterback.
There have been rumors of the Titans exploring a trade with the Cardinals for the third pick. Arizona reportedly has six teams who are interested in the pick. I do think the Titans end up trading with Arizona and selecting Anthony Richardson.
Trading up would come with a hefty price tag, and because of this, the Titans will have to replenish some draft compensation by trading a key asset.
Even if Tennessee decides not to trade up in the draft there is a possibility that Derrick Henry is dealt. The 27-year-old running back has had a heavy workload for quite a few years now, and eventually, the wheels will fall off.
Tennessee is not going to be winning anything this season, and it could be perfect timing to get some value for Henry. 2023 is going to be a transition year for the Titans, and Henry will be wasted on a team that could finish in third or fourth place in its own division.
Henry was linked to being a trade candidate for the Titans, and Tennessee’s front office shut down those rumors earlier in the offseason, but eventually, a team needs to realize that the best move for the organization is to move off the running back.
The draft compensation for Henry may be only a third- and/or fourth-round pick, but the Titans have a lot of holes on the roster that need to be addressed.
