The last time the Buffalo Bills played a game, they were busy holding off the Las Vegas Raiders for their fifth win in six contests.

Meanwhile, the last time the Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers, and Washington Commanders all took the field, each club took it on the chin strap.

Hence, here’s a look at each of the four teams this season to date.

2026 NFL Season: Grades for teams coming off Week 7 bye

Buffalo Bills (5-1)

They are the league’s top scoring team, averaging a brisk 32.8 points per contest. But only the Arizona Cardinals (29.7) and Washington Commanders (28.7) are surrendering more points per contest than the AFC East leaders (28.5). In six games, quarterback Josh Allen, running back James Cook and Joe Brady’s offense has reached the end zone 23 times. However, Allen (5) and Cook (2) have combined to commit seven of the team’s nine turnovers.

Meanwhile, coordinator Jim Leonhard’s defense is ranked next-to-last in the league in fewest total yards and fewest passing yards per game. The Bills have given up 21 offensive touchdowns. while the biggest bright spot on defense has been Gregory Rousseau. He’s totaled six sacks, three forced fumbles, and knocked down five passes.

Grade: B+

Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2)

Think about how far this franchise has come under head coach Liam Coen. He inherited a club that finished 4-13 in 2024 and led them to a 13-4 mark and an AFC South title this past season. Although the club stubbed their cleats back in Week 6 via a 34-31 loss to the Houston Texans in London, the Jaguars have just one less win than the rest of the division combined (5-16).

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence is hitting on 65.2 percent of his throws, good for 14 scores and only four interceptions. Wideout Parker Washington is an emerging star, while running backs Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez Jr. make for an unsung 1-2 punch.

While no team in the league is giving up fewer rushing yards per game, Jacksonville has allowed the third-most passing yards per game. But the Jaguars have allowed only seven touchdown passes, they’ve also total seven interceptions.

Grade: A-

Los Angeles Chargers (0-6)

In each of Jim Harbaugh’s first two seasons at the helm of the Chargers, the team finished 11-6 and earned a wild card spot. In 2025, quarterback Justin Herbert earned his second Pro Bowl invitation despite committing 15 turnovers and being sacked 54 times behind a troubled and injury-riddled offensive line.

It appeared that general manager Joe Hortiz and the team’s front office had addressed the team’s issues from the previous season. However, the team got off on the wrong foot with consecutive home losses to the Cardinals and Raiders and have yet to recover. The offense has been a disaster under coordinator Mike McDaniel, and Herbert looks like he hasn’t recovered from his 2025 beating.

After seven weeks of play, the Bolts are the lone winless team in the league and it will be interesting to see what the immediate future holds for Harbaugh, McDaniel and perhaps some talented players as well.

Grade: D-

Washington Commanders (1-4-1)

This Sunday, Dan Quinn’s club battles the Philadelphia Eagles for the second time this season. The Commanders knocked off the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks for their lone victory of 2026. Since opening 3-2 a season ago, Washington is 3-14-2 in its last 19 outings.

It may surprise some to know that only the undefeated Minnesota Vikings (plus-7) have a better turnover differential than Quinn’s team (plus-6), due mainly to the fact that the club has an NFL-low two turnovers. However, the defense is ranked 28th in the league in passing yards allowed per game and has already given up 15 TD tosses in six outings.

Throw in some shaky decisions by quarterback Jayden Daniels when it comes to clock management and it’s hard to trust this team on a game-by-game basis.

Grade: D+
