There have been rumors and speculation all offseason about the future of New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, and if the Patriots are actually willing to trade him, his next landing spot could not be more obvious.
The Houston Texans are dealing with an injury to second-year player Jayden Higgins, one of the top breakout candidates in the conference for the upcoming season. Higgins caught 41 passes for 525 yards and 6 touchdowns last year as a rookie, and was well on his way to becoming the clear #2 option in the passing game for Houston.
Now, that plan is off, at least temporarily. Higgins suffered a torn ACL and will now miss the 2026 season. With the Texans obviously trying to take the next step as a franchise and compete for a Super Bowl, they might not simply be looking inward for the next man up. It might be time for GM Nick Caserio to call up his old pals in New England and strike a deal.

The Houston Texans won't soon forget the play Kayshon Boutte made against them back in January during the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
In fact, Boutte had 3 receptions for 75 yards in that game, proving what he can do against what very well may be the best pass defense in the entire NFL.
Because of the fact that both the Patriots and Texans are contenders in the AFC, there might be a slight upcharge on any trade between these two, assuming there's even a real possibility that this could happen. Boutte's desire to be traded is well-documented at this point, and the Patriots have made no secret that they felt the receiver position needed to be upgraded this offseason.
They gave Romeo Doubs a four-year deal worth $68 million this offseason. They traded to get star receiver AJ Brown from the Eagles. It's understandable that Boutte, entering a contract year at the age of 24, would be looking for a better opportunity to cash in elsewhere. The Patriots also have DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams, and Mack Hollins on the roster.
It's very possible that Boutte is viewed by the Patriots as the 3rd-best receiver on the team right now, but if they are willing to give in to his request, the Texans would be a very logical suitor in a deal. And Boutte could probably thrive there as the complement to Nico Collins.
The big question the Patriots would have to answer is whether or not they would want to send help to a team in their own conference that is putting out an SOS. It doesn't really make sense for them to do that, but it wouldn't be the first time those two teams have done a deal since Caserio became GM in Houston.
