Time to trade Maxx Crosby a second time?

The Las Vegas Raiders have already traded Maxx Crosby once in 2026. It might be time to do it a second time.

After the Chicago Bears' latest blockbuster trade to acquire defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from the Tennessee Titans, we have no choice but to fire up the Maxx Crosby rumor mill at least one more time.

The Bears gave up two 1st-round picks to get Simmons, which has become sort of a trend for NFL teams over the past year-plus. Technically, Simmons is the 6th defensive player over the last year (ish) to be traded for at least one 2027 1st-round pick. Only five of those trades have actually gone through thanks to the Ravens backing out of their deal for Crosby, which was originally for a 1st-round pick in 2026 and another in 2027.

Now that the trade deadline on November 10 is really starting to close in, could the Raiders get the same type of package if they put Crosby back on the block?

Maxx Crosby could still land the Raiders a haul of picks in a trade

Teams around the league are ready to give up draft capital for quick fixes to their roster. There have already been five first-round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft changing hands, and those picks have all been traded for defensive stars:

  • Myles Garrett, Rams
  • Micah Parsons, Packers
  • Jeffery Simmons, Bears
  • Quinnen Williams, Cowboys
  • Sauce Gardner, Colts

The Ravens might have hit "return to sender" on their Crosby trade earlier this year, but Crosby has proven his knee is good to go so far this season. He has played 88 percent of the Raiders' defensive snaps heading into Week 8, which will be a pivotal week for deciding what that team is going to do at the deadline.

The Raiders play on the road against the New York Jets in Week 8, and are in danger of possibly losing their 5th-straight game.

After starting the season 3-0, it seemed like any ideas of the Raiders being sellers at the NFL trade deadline were off the table. Unfortunately, they've been in an absolute free-fall ever since that 3-0 start. Now, the Raiders are 3-4, and their next stretch of 5 games is absolutely brutal.

  • @ Jets
  • @ 49ers
  • vs. Seahawks
  • @ Broncos
  • @ Browns

The Raiders have to understand and have a little self-awareness that this is not a championship season for them, nor was it expected to be.

Winning at all in 2026 is a cherry on top of getting some development from the young players on this roster, and establishing a strong foundation for the future with Klint Kubiak as the head coach.

If there is a possibility of adding another 1st-round pick -- or two of them -- the Raiders would be foolish not to take it. The Raiders currently have the 29th-ranked scoring defense so far this season, and they've been an absolute sieve on that side of the ball when they're not creating takeaways.

Those extra darts early in the NFL Draft could really help this team.

The fact that the Raiders already were willing to trade Crosby once should have teams calling regardless. But with the cost to acquire these star defenders in 2026, the Raiders would be wise not to hang up immediately.
