Shonn Greene not in danger of being released

Tennessee Titans veteran running back Shonn Greene was arrested last night for parking in a handicap spot and fleeing the scene in his vehicle when a police officer approached him. Greene fled police on two occasions before turning himself in after realizing that there was a warrant out for his arrest, and he turned a Seinfeld-style scenario into something that could have ended badly had his vehicle struck the officer’s car or somebody else’s vehicle. It’s unclear what the Titans will do with Greene, but it doesn’t look like an unceremonious dumping is in the cards.

More from Tennessee Titans

Per a “team source” close to ESPN NFL Nation’s Paul Kuharsky, Greene’s spot with the Titans isn’t in “jeopardy” following his arrest, though I’m sure very few fans would be upset if the team decided to cut ties with him. Although the Titans are thin at the running back position, Greene is a plodding back who gets too many carries, and the team surely hasn’t missed him in the past two weeks. Greene was set to return for tomorrow’s game against the Houston Texans (he’s listed probable on the injury report) after missing two games with a hamstring injury, but I doubt the Titans let him play after this arrest.

So far this season, the 29-year-old has averaged a better-than-expected 4.3 yards per carry on 44 attempts, but that average is boosted by two strong games to start the season; he’s been injured or unsuccessful since. In fact, Greene hasn’t averaged four yards per carry since 2011, back when he was a solid rusher for the New York Jets.
