Delanie Walker in concussion protocol

The Tennessee Titans lost two notable players to injury in yesterday’s 21-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, as head coach Ken Whisenhunt called Dexter McCluster day-to-day with a knee bruise. Of greater concern is the injury to underrated tight end Delanie Walker, who is one of the team’s most important players on offense, and his injury is more serious. Walker left yesterday’s game with a concussion after absorbing a huge hit from rookie safety Terrence Brooks, and the legality of the play was put into question. Veteran running back Leon Washington certainly took exception to it, voicing his displeasure with the play in the form of a head-butt.

Walker was motionless on the field, and it was obvious that he had suffered a concussion before finally leaving the game. It’s always scary to see that transpire, and his status for this week’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football is highly questionable at best. According to the Tennessean’s Jim Wyatt, Whisenhunt confirmed that Walker is indeed in the concussion protocol.

All the Titans can do is wait and hope that he can pass through the concussion protocol, and they will undoubtedly err on the side of caution if need be. Hopefully Walker will be healthy enough to play this week, but the most important thing is that he experiences a full recovery, because that was an absolutely brutal play.
