Green Bay Packers: 3 Big takeaways from win vs. 49ers in Week 6
The Rookie Wide Receivers Step Up
For the second week in a row, the Green Bay Packers were without Geronimo Allison and Randall Cobb. The latter hasn’t played since Week 3. However, the rookie wide receivers have stepped up for the Packers. After some comments about them from Aaron Rodgers earlier this season, they have stepped up — most notably, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who recorded the first 100-yard game of his young NFL career.
MVS has distanced himself from the other rookie wide receivers, but you cannot discredit Equanimeous St. Brown and J’Mon Moore. The former has been fourth receiving option the last two weeks, but he has stepped up when his number was called.
St. Brown had a beautiful back-shoulder catch on the final drive of the game. The route looked like something you’d see from Jordy Nelson. The back-shoulder throw from Rodgers to a Nelson fly route should have been trademarked. That’s what St. Brown did on Monday night to help the Packers win the game.
With Cobb and Allison expected to return soon, and the Packers likely bringing Jake Kumerow or Trevor Davis off of IR, the Packers will be back to being stacked at wide receiver, but Valdes-Scantling and St. Brown have made enough plays to have their number called in the future.
