Rodger Saffold, G, Los Angeles Rams

It’s no secret the Packers need help along the offensive line this offseason. While you can’t necessary consider their front five as being in shambles, they could certainly use an upgrade along the interior heading into 2019.

Right now, they’re rolling with Lane Taylor and Patrick Lucas as their starting guards. There are certainly teams out there in worse positions, but that doesn’t mean the Packers should remain complacent when it comes to protecting their franchise quarterback. If an improvement can be made at the position, why not make it?

One free agent that comes to mind is Rodger Saffold, the Los Angeles Rams’ underrated starting guard. While not the biggest of names, those who watch football religiously know that this guy gets the job done on Sundays. He’s a mauler in the ground game who also excels as a pass protector, which seems like the perfect fit for what Green Bay needs.

The obvious problem here is figuring out two things: 1.  Will the Rams re-sign Saffold and 2. How much will his signature cost? The belief is he wants to return to Los Angeles, which may be the case even more so now that they’re headed for the Super Bowl. Seeing as he’s one of the top blockers set to be available in a weak class, he’s also bound to be paid well.

Still, if the Packers want to ensure Rodgers’ continued health, inking a quality blocker like Saffold makes too much sense.
