3. DT Allen Bailey (Kansas City Chiefs)

For the past two seasons, the defensive unit of the Los Angeles Rams has been run by legendary coordinator and sometimes NFL head coach Wade Phillips. Over this short span, the team has racked up its share of sacks and come away with plenty of takeaways.

For all of the positives, however, this unit has been far from imposing. In 2017, the Rams forced 28 turnovers and amassed 48 quarterback traps. But Sean McVay’s squad gave up more than 20 points per game, was 19th in the league in total yards allowed per game while only five teams in the NFL allowed more yards per game on the ground.

This past year, Los Angeles forced 30 turnovers and sacked opposing passers 41 times. Yet the team was once again in the middle of the pack in terms of yards allowed per game and ranked 23rd vs. the run.

The Rams could use some help on their three-man line to team with two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Yea Aaron Donald and seven-year pro Michael Brockers. Ndamukong Suh, Ethan Westbrooks and Dominique Easley are all unsigned free agents. So what about bringing in 30-year old Allen Bailey in terms of some veteran insurance?

He comes off a season in which he total a career-best six sacks. In eight seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, the 6-3, 288-pound performer has lined up in a variety of spots along the front seven and his versatility is a plus.
