Offensive Line (8)

Starters: Cody Whitehair, James Daniels, Charles Leno, Germain Ifedi, Bobby Massie
Backups: Jason Spriggs, Alex Bars, Rashaad Coward
Practice Squad: Lachavious Simmons, Arlington Hambright, Dieter Eiselen

Okay, let’s start off with one of the most important groups on offense. Without the offensive line doing its job, everything else breaks down. We saw that happen in 2019. The line suffered through bad play and injuries. As a result, the Bears ranked 29th in both total offense and points scored. The running backs could not find holes big enough to run through and the quarterback didn’t have time to throw.

The line must perform better in order for the Bears to score more points and stay on the field. If they do that, the elite defense will be fresh all season long and continue to keep opponents from scoring.

The starting line remains the same from last season except for right guard due to Kyle Long’s retirement. Massie had his season cut short because of injury. He’s healthy now so he hopes to return to his 2018 form.

Leno needs to find a way to not commit so many penalties. He committed 13 of them in 2019 after not committing any in 2018. He made the Pro Bowl in 2018 so, hopefully, he finds a way back to that.

Daniels and Whitehair will play in their original positions all season long. The coaches switched them last season and it was a disaster. Once they switched them back, both players performed better and the line was stronger.

The new starter on the line is former Seattle Seahawks first-round pick Germain Ifedi. The Bears hope Ifedi has success at right guard after struggling at tackle. He played guard as a rookie and did well. With his strength and size at guard, he could do some good things for the line.
