47. . AFC East. New England Patriots. New England Patriots. 5. player

We all knew that the New England Patriots were going to be a whole new team this year, but not many expected them to be 2-5 at any point during the season. Not only did the Patriots see their quarterback of the last two decades depart for greener pastures (or sunnier beaches rather), but they also had a league high eight players opt out of the season due to COVID.

Even with all of those concerns, the Patriots looked good to start the season, but quickly fell to 2-2 and before we knew it, were 2-5 and looking like they could be on their way to a top 10 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Patriots rebounded and are 4-5, barely alive in the playoff picture, but alive nonetheless.

Bill Belichick is still one of the best coaches in the league and it’s shown in certain games this season, especially the win against the Ravens this past weekend. New England is still competitive despite the hand they’ve been dealt, but we’ll have to see how this season finishes up for them.

The Patriots probably aren’t winning the AFC East this year, which would be the first time that’s happened since the 2008 season when Tom Brady was out for the year with an injury. That 2008 season was also the last time that New England missed the playoffs. It’s a weird feeling, but for the first time in 20 years, the Patriots are a major disappointment in the regular season.
