Most Disappointing Rookies in 2020 NFL Season – No. 5: Henry Ruggs III

It was surprising when Henry Ruggs III was the first wide receiver off the board in the 2020 NFL Draft, but the Las Vegas Raiders obviously believed that he’d be a key contributor in them finally catching up to the Chiefs in the AFC West. While Ruggs hasn’t necessarily been bad, he has not lived up to expectations whatsoever.

More from NFL Spin Zone

The first-round rookie receiver has just 23 receptions for 414 yards and two touchdowns with the Raiders. Ruggs’ best game came in Week 5 when he caught two passes for 118 yards and a touchdown against the Chiefs, handing KC their first loss of the year. In that game, Ruggs had a 72-yard touchdown pass, which was obviously a large chunk of his total.

That was Ruggs’ first touchdown of the season and it was a big one indeed. His second score came in Week 13 against the winless Jets and ended up being the game-winning touchdown. Ruggs had three grabs for 84 yards and the score in that narrow victory.

To sum up, Ruggs hasn’t been bad by any stretch of the imagination, but the Raiders were obviously hoping for more, especially from the first wide receiver taken in the draft.
