Running back – Devonta Freeman

The free agent running back for our team is Devonta Freeman, a two-time Pro Bowler.  He began his career with the Atlanta Falcons, amassing over 1,000 rushing yards in 2015 and 2016.

He fell off a bit there, played five games for the Giants in 2020, and had a bit of a career resurgence in Baltimore in 2021, rushing for 576 yards in 16 games, averaging 4.3 yards per carry.

At this point, Freeman can find work as an RB2 on a few teams, but he is the best remaining running back free agent on the market.

He’s elusive by nature.  Standing at 5’8″ and weighing 200 pounds, Freeman’s pad level is very low and can make people miss at will.

However, he recently turned 30, and that age is usually the beginning of the end for most running backs and their effectiveness.

Freeman is also a threat as a pass-catcher with nearly 300 career receptions.

A smart team would sign him and use him occasionally in a very, very watered-down Deebo Samuel-type role if they wanted to get creative.
