How many of us truly thought the Minnesota Vikings would be 6-0, and the New York Giants would have four wins through the first seven weeks of the season? There is a ton of parity in the league right now, and that could not be more on display in the NFC.

We are still a long way away from the playoffs actually beginning, but with the middle of the season approaching, and the weather getting colder, the playoff races are only going to heat up more and more.

Now that Week 7 is in the books and Week 8 is on the horizon, let's dive into an updated look at the current NFC playoff picture.

Updated NFC Playoff Picture following Week 8 proves that it's anyone's conference

Wild Card Teams

7. Green Bay Packers (4-3)

The Green Bay Packers are in a Wild Card spot right now, which has been the case for years. The Packers have dealt with a ton of injuries this year and just might not have the personnel to make any sort of progress in the division in 2026. That doesn't mean future years can't bring division titles, but for now, the Packers feel like a slam-dunk Wild Card squad with some frisky upside.

6. Detroit Lions (4-2)

The Detroit Lions began the 2025 season 7-4 before missing the playoffs, and that came after two-straight division titles in 2023 and 2024. I just can't imagine that the Lions would miss the playoffs for a second season in a row, especially with how elite Jared Goff has been this year. At a solid 4-2, the Lions currently sit in the No. 6 seed in the NFC playoffs.

5. Chicago Bears (5-2)

Three of four NFC North squads occupy the Wild Card spots right now, and if the entire division made the playoffs, it would be the first time in the seven-team playoff era that an entire division makes the postseason.

It'd be quite something, as all four teams do appear to be good enough, but the Chicago Bears appear to have the biggest upside of the four with how good Caleb Williams appears to be, and we've even seen the defense step up a good bit this year as well.
