3. Desmond Trufant

The first standout player for the Atlanta Falcons in their Week 2 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday came on the defensive side of the ball with cornerback Desmond Trufant.

In the victory over the Eagles in their home opener on Sunday Night Football, the Falcons forced Philadelphia and its quarterback Carson Wentz into a total of two interceptions in the contest, both of which were recorded and made by Trufant in the back end of the defense.

By the end of the game, the seventh-year defensive back finished with two interceptions and a total of three pass deflections to help lead the Falcons’ defensive unit.

Trufant, who was drafted by the Falcons with the 22nd overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft out of Washington, has already recorded the second-most interceptions of his professional career through two weeks of regular season play in 2019. In 2014, the cornerback finished the year with a career-best three interceptions.

In 2018, Trufant appeared in all 16 games for Atlanta, grabbing a total of 55 solo tackles and 11 assist tackles to finish the campaign with 66 tackles.

Trufant helped the Falcons have a nice bounce-back performance on the defensive side of the ball after putting together a tough performance against the Vikings in the Week 1 defeat to kick off the regular season. On Sunday, he was just one of the standouts on the defensive end of the field for Atlanta.
